The Snow Has Been Falling Since Dawn
Paul McLaughlin
Snow has been falling since dawn
Icing the trees on our lawn-
Blowing and squalling
And filling
The garden
'Till autumn's last remnants are goneAt midday the air's full of snow
As night falls we're blind in the blow
Of a blizzard that's gusting
And brawling
And blustering-
A wild swirling whirlpool of snowBy daybreak the snow clouds are gone
And ice fractals flash in the dawn
The storm has blown by
Leaving crystal
Blue sky
And icy blue hues in the lawnOur rose bushes snuggle below
The shimmering duvet of snow
A sheltering cover
Like the arms
Of a lover
In whose fingers wild roses will grow
